Project description


Engine and Teamsize:
UE4 / 6 Gamedesign students

Constraints:
survival aspect, 2 semester project

About:
The first UE4 project I took part in. (UE4 just came out for public with subscription the holidays before)
The character is a young normadic women that comes back to her village only to find it burnt down to ashes.
Alone she crosses the vast sceneric landscapes to find the members of her clan.
To survive in the nature she needs to find her own food and craft a variety of tools.
This project was supposed to run for two semesters but was dropped after the first one.

Work on this project


    Programming:
  • ♦ Implementation gameplay mechanics C++
  • {character (very basic), item system over ID's, crafting}
  • ♦ Implementation UI
  • {UI base classes(buttons etc. as there was no UMG at that time), inventory (4 pages: items, crafting, status, notes), drag and drop, support for mouse and controller}
  • ♦ Writing a system to read item descriptions and notes out of json files
  • ♦ A few unused assets like reading temperature information out of a greyscale texture
    Art related:
  • ♦ Day and night system + skydome
  • ♦ Post process material (given to Svenja Hohn to adjust it to the projects style afterwards)
    Other:
  • ♦ Putting all art assets in after Project was canceled (was a greybox at that time) (together with Dennis Kurzeja)
  • ♦ Getting the project ready for shipping
